The Australian Government led by Prime Minister Gough Whitlam is the only one to be dismissed from office by the Governor-General.
On the 11 November 1975, the Governor-General, Sir John Kerr, used his reserve powers to terminate Mr Whitlam’s commission as Prime Minister.
