What is the role of Deputy Leader of the Opposition?
Thanks for your question. The role of Deputy Leader of the Opposition is to support the Leader of the Opposition. This role can vary depending on the person in the job and the party they are in, but generally they help the Leader of the Opposition fulfil their duties. They do this by:
- Helping the Leader of the Opposition to develop and present policies for their team.
- Helping the Leader of the Opposition to manage the party.
- Acting as Leader of the Opposition when the Leader of the Opposition is not available (such as when the Leader of the Opposition is travelling overseas).
The Deputy Leader of the Opposition also holds the role of a shadow minister (such as shadow minister for foreign affairs, shadow treasurer etc). As a member of the House of Representatives, they also need to represent the people in their electorate.
